FedEx Freight, Harrison, Ark., announced it is contributing $1 million to help revitalize the Lake Harrison recreational area in Harrison, Ark.
The community facilities are used by the general public, area schools and by civic organizations for events such as the Special Olympics.
The FedEx Freight donation jumpstarts a $4 million funding effort needed to complete the project, and will be disbursed in $100,000 annual donations over the next 10 years. The Goblin Booster Club, a 501(c) (3) organization, under The Internal Revenue Code, initiated this revitalization effort and will serve as the fiscal agent for the project.
FedEx Freight is the LTL subsidiary of FedEx Corp. and the largest employer in Harrison, employing more than 1,000 residents of the community.
The company, formerly Arkansas Freightways, was founded in Harrison in 1982 and has rooted historical ties to the community.
Renamed American Freightways in 1993 and FedEx Freight in 2002 after being acquired by FedEx Corp. in 2001, the company remains committed to its community roots.
