Celadon Group Inc., Indianapolis, Ind., has announced it is one of the first trucking companies to participate in the Highway Watch program.

Highway Watch is a national driver-led effort, supported by the American Trucking Assns. (ATA), focused on providing truck drivers with the tools and expertise to make a positive difference on America’s roadways.
The goal of the program is to bring together the trucking industry, law enforcement and other safety and security professionals as allies to make the nation’s highways safer. Celadon has a history of dedication to both highway and driver safety. In March of 2003 at the Truckload Carrier Conference, the company was awarded First Place in Fleet Safety among all truckload fleets in the United States that log more than 100 million miles a year.
"We recognize the importance of the Highway Watch program and its potential in supporting both the Transportation Safety Administration's anti-terrorist efforts and the trucking industry's commitment to improving highway safety," said Bill Osborn, vice president of safety at Celadon. "Celadon is honored to have participated in Indiana’s inaugural training session. By having our two senior safety officers be the first in the company to become certified, we have not only demonstrated our commitment to the program, but will also encourage our driver fleet to become involved. It is our desire to have our drivers attend this training to increase efforts against terrorism and other dangers."
Although participation in Highway Watch is strictly voluntary for trucking companies, Celadon believes that the trucking industry has an important role to play to keep highways safe. The company is among the first to take part in the training program, which consists of a two-hour class taught by law enforcement agents focusing on how drivers can play an active role in making the nation’s roadways secure. After taking the class, drivers are given Highway Watch identification numbers along with a toll free number to call to report incidents.
Celadon Group Inc. is a truckload carrier specializing in providing long-haul service (van truckload carriage) from the United States and Canada to and from locations in Mexico, and, is the majority owner of TruckersB2B, Inc., which is a provider of cost benefits to over 14,000 member fleets.
