A privately held Lincoln-based company will combine two of its trucking businesses,
according to the Omaha World-Herald.
The Acklie Cos., which owns trucking businesses, said that Shaffer Trucking Inc. of New Kingstown, Pa., and Sunflower Carriers of York, Neb., will merge on Jan. 1 under the Shaffer name.
Acklie has 5,000 drivers within its four companies: Crete Carrier Corp. of Lincoln, Neb.; Shaffer Trucking Inc.; Sunflower Carriers; and Hunt Transportation Inc. of Omaha.
The two companies that will merge specialize in refrigerated trailers. They will keep their respective headquarters but will share dispatching responsibilities. Acklie does not anticipate employment changes.
"Our new organization will take the best of both Shaffer and Sunflower to create a single entity that we are confident will be the best temperature-sensitive motor carrier in the trucking industry," said Chairman Duane Acklie.
Acklie had 2001 gross revenues of $740 million for its fiscal year ended Sept. 30.
