Cash and prizes were handed out the winners in the Stars & Stripes, Show & Shine truck beauty competition that wrapped up Saturday in Las Vegas during the annual International Trucking Show.

This year’s contest marked the first time the competition was held indoors at the Las Vegas Convention Center in this event sponsored by Newport Communications, Chevron, Peterbilt, Bridgestone/Firestone, California Custom Products, Howes Lubricator Products, I-75 Chrome Shop (Wildwood, Fla.), Truck-Lite, Valley Chrome Plating (Clovis, Calif.), Wilson Antenna and IntraUSA.
The contest mainly featured working trucks, those with more than 75,000 miles in the past year, but also contained separate categories for professional show trucks.
Taking home the Best of Show Combination Award was Rhett Butler of Rhett Butler Trucking, Andalusia, Ala., for a 2001 white, muralled Kenworth T2000 with a 1998 Utility reefer, know as “Miss Scarlett.” The truck also took home People’s Choice award in the combination category.
Sam Watson Trucking and owner Sam Watson of Weston, W.Va., won the Best of Show Bobtail award with a 1974 blue Kenworth W900A, known as “Rainbow.”
The People’s Choice winner in the bobtail category went to Chris Lewis Trucking and owner Chris Lewis of Jackson, Mo., for the 1999 blue & pink Peterbilt 379 know as “Chrome Illusion.”
RoadStar magazine’s Contributing Editor and owner-operator Dave Sweetman also handed out the Dave’s Pick Of The Litter Award to Tod Job of T.L. Job Trucking, Jefferson City, Mo., for his 1996 burgundy Peterbilt 379 and 1997 Great Dane reefer.
In the professional show truck categories, Western States Wholesale and Mike Humphries of Ontario, Calif., won in the combination competition with a 1980 yellow Peterbilt 359 and 1994 Kentucky drop van trailer. In the bobtail competition Hoosier Air Transport and Doug Day of Columbus, Ind., won with a 1955 gray Peterbilt 351.
