A Texas state representative plans to introduce legislation to address the concerns of truck drivers who must idle their rigs, unpaid, for hours at the Port of Houston waiting to pick up or drop off containers.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Joe Moreno, D-Houston, says he will introduce legislation similar to a bill he filed last session to try to cut down on the long lines at the port.
Overweight containers, improperly labeled containers, the repair and maintenance of truck chassis and port credentialing requirements also may be addressed in legislation in the session, which starts next January.
The Port of Houston Authority released a statement on truck safety and chassis safety, agreeing that “problems exist with the current system of shared responsibility for truck and chassis safety. This is a nationwide problem that must be addressed.”
