Con-Way Transportation Services, Ann Arbor, Mich., has opened a truckload brokerage operation.

Service will be provided between all points within the United States, and between the U.S. and Canada. The new service will be known as Con-Way Full Load.
Contract arrangements have been made with more than 2,000 truckload fleet operators, which have approximately 25,000 pieces of equipment. Con-Way Full Load will initially offer only dry van service.
"We're on very familiar ground," said Gerald L. Detter, president and CEO. "We contract with truckload carriers regularly for a portion of our linehaul service in our less-than-truckload operations, and we also manage a large group of contract operators in our Con-Way NOW expedite service. This experience has given us the expertise and systems necessary to manage a very substantial truckload brokerage operation."
According to the company, minimal capital assets will be needed to run the Full Load service, adapting the systems used to run Con-Way NOW. A central operations and customer service center has been established in Ann Arbor, Mich., adjacent to the Con-Way NOW service center.
