Con-Way Transportation Services has announced effective December 24, its fuel surcharge will go to zero.

This will affect shipments moving on Con-Way Western Express, Con-Way Central Express, Con-Way Southern Express and Con-Way Canada Express during the balance of 2001, and as long as the average cost of diesel fuel stays below $1.15 per gallon.
The company says it bases its fuel surcharge on the weekly average price of diesel fuel that is published by the U.S. Department of Energy. The price per gallon was listed at $1.143 per gallon in the weekly figure published the evening of December 17. Above $1.15 per gallon is the point where Con-Way begins to assess the charge. Below this level the FSC goes to zero.
Con-Way also announced that effective January 1 it will issue a new Fuel Surcharge translation table in its Tariff CNWY-190 (Fuel Surcharge Program). The new translation table that converts the price per gallon to the percentage level of the surcharge is posted on the company web site at www.con-way.com.
