UPS announced its 2002 rate increase.

The rate change will take effect Jan. 7, one month earlier than in previous years. On average, rates for UPS commercial ground services will increase 3.5 percent. The residential premium will increase from $1.05 to $1.10. Rates for overnight and two-day express services will go up about 4 percent.
Rates for UPS Hundredweight, the company's LTL alternative, will increase 5.9 percent, but the company says the service will continue to save customers about 50 percent over LTL published rates.
The company's temporary 1.25 percent fuel surcharge will remain in effect.
