Penske Truck Leasing will close its Leaseway Auto Carrier terminal in southeast Baltimore by the end of the year.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the terminal transports vans built at the nearby General Motors assembly plant. The contract with GM expires Dec. 31, and Penske will not seek to renew it, according to the paper, saying, "we are getting out of that business."
According to the local union, the company said they were losing money transporting the vans. GM has sharply cut back on the number of vans produced at the plant. When the terminal is closed, 127 people will lose their jobs.
Penske acquired Leaseway in 1995.
