Olympic officials may restrict hazardous material shipments from passing near Olympic venues during the Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

According to the Associated Press, safety officials are concerned about a spill or release of materials such as poisonous gas, which could force the shutdown of an Olympic venue.
In downtown Salt Lake City, one truck route runs directly in front of the arena where figure skaters and short-track speed skaters will be competing.
Officials are also asking companies that deliver materials such as gasoline to do so between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Security will be stepped up at Utah weigh stations during the Olympic Games.
