The Arkansas Trucking Association named Maverick Vice President of Safety Dean Newell the 2000 Safety Director of the Year
during its recent annual conference.
As the leader in Maverick's safety efforts, Newell coordinates driver training and orientation and oversees the company's loss prevention and risk management program. Newell led Maverick in an outstanding safety year where accidents per million miles and preventable accidents per million miles decreased substantially. The company's cost relating to accidents also decreased, as Newell developed education and training programs relating to safety awareness and the securement of the cargo hauled by the Arkansas-based flatbed carrier.
"We hold safety as a top priority in our company, and Dean's leadership has proven to be vital in our safety success," said Maverick President Stephen Selig.
Newell, who has been with the company 15 years, credited the drivers. "It was the drivers' dedication to safety and their efforts practicing safe driving techniques that made it happen," said Newell.
