Yellow Freight System, Overland Park, Kan., has opened a new 192-door distribution center in San Bernardino, Calif.

Located on 31.7 acres adjacent to a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Intermodal facility, the new distribution center has enabled Yellow to improve service standards by one and two days on many lanes inbound to and outbound from the Los Angeles Basin.
"With the opening in San Bernardino, we're taking our service in Southern California to even higher levels," said Yellow Freight System President James Welch. "We are now in an excellent strategic location with quick access to a huge rail facility and one of the busiest ocean ports in the world."
The new distribution center has been in development since mid-1998 with actual construction underway since November 2000. The new center will have approximately 500 employees, mostly drivers and dock professionals, who have transferred from Yellow Freight terminals in Barstow and Fontana, Calif. Those two facilities have been closed.
