Ryder System, Miami, is closing its Washington, D.C., government relations office as part of its restructuring activities.

The D.C. office's responsibilities will be transferred to corporate headquarters within the next two to three months.
Ryder says the change will allow the company's senior management to be more involved in addressing government and regulatory issues. "Ryder will maintain, or expand, where appropriate, its federal and state activities on issues that are critical to our business," said Gregory Swienton, Ryder president and CEO.
In addition, Ryder will continue to be an active member in industry associations, including the American Trucking Associations, the Truck Renting and Leasing Assn. and state trucking associations.
Lisa Rickard, senior vice president of government relations, will help Ryder in the transition of key governmental and industry relationships to company executives in Miami, Swienton said.
