Atlas World Group, Evansville, Ind., is selling its American Red Ball Transit subsidiary to Red Ball's senior management.

Partners Katrina Blackwell, Brad Beal and David Combs are buying the 82-year-old, Indianapolis-based Red Ball Transit, which was bought by Atlas in 1996. AWG will retain ownership of Red Ball Corp. and its other subsidiaries, including American Red Ball International. AWG and American Red Ball Transit will also continue many of the operational relationships that have benefited both companies.
AWG Chairman Michael Shaffer said the decision to sell the van line as a stand-alone company was based on its prospects as a primarily military and COD carrier, along with "cultural differences."
Blackwell, with more than 30 years in the industry, 25 of them with American Red Ball Transit, will continue as president of the company. Beal will be COO, and Combs will be CFO.
