The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is looking into a plan that could end up rewarding trucks for traveling at night on bridges in the New York City area.

According to the New York Times, the proposal would increase bridge and tunnel tolls to $7 during rush hours, which could end up being defined during the morning as 6 to 10 a.m. The tolls would then drop to a slightly lower price, except for the evening rush hours.
E-ZPass users would also get some type of discount. Trucks traveling late at night would be given large discounts in an effort to relieve the grinding congestion that trucks can cause at the Hudson River crossings during the day.
This plan also includes raising tolls for many commuters to help pay for large capital spending plans by the port authority, the article said.
