North Carolina has begun a resurfacing project along nearly 9 miles of Interstate 85 in Orange County.

The area being worked on runs from the Durham-Orange county line to the I-85/I-40 split west of Hillsborough. The state DOT expects to finish the project by Mid-August. Expect lane closings, delays, and some detours from I-40 onto Old NC 86.
Crews will start work at the Durham-Orange line in the lanes heading southwest, repairing concrete slabs under the pavement. Once crews reach the I-40 intersection, they'll turn around and repair slabs in the northbound lanes. Resurfacing could begin on the southbound lanes while crews finish slab work in the northbound lanes. About 1,000 feet of I-40 will be resurfaced as well.
