Skyway Freight Systems closed its doors March 31. The Watsonville, CA, company was founded in 1977 as a freight forwarder and developed into a provider of transportation services and supply-chain management. Some of its customers included Compaq, Dell Computer and GAP Inc. No reason was given for the closure.
Union Pacific purchased Skyway in 1993 and in 1998 sold it to Genstar Capital LLC, a private investment company in San Francisco.
