The North Carolina Department of Transportation has withdrawn a proposal to develop an action plan to address the shortage of truck parking.

According to a federal report titled "No Room At The Inn," North Carolina has only 39 rest areas and only 685 truck parking spaces, compared to a need for 2,037 spaces. Only Florida and Pennsylvania have a greater truck parking shortage.
The Truckload Carriers Assn. wrote a letter to North Carolina's Secretary of Transportation and other NCDOT officials, asking them to reconsider.
"In view of the continuing safety considerations presented by the truck parking shortage, and of your state's critical truck parking shortage, it makes sense for North Carolina to proceed with a plan to address this problem," wrote TCA President Lana Batts.
