Boyd Bros. Transportation, Clayton, AL, is building a $5 million terminal in Birmingham, AL, that it hopes will help it recruit and keep drivers.

The 400,000-square-foot facility will include an exercise room, Internet-ready computers and indoor refueling.
Work on the 18-bay terminal is under way on a 20-acre site about a mile off of Interstate 65 north of the city. It will be the hub for 150 to 250 drivers. The facility will provide easier access to the Southeast. The company does not plan to move its headquarters to the new terminal, which is scheduled to be finished by early next year.
The terminal will include driver amenities not often found in trucking facilities. An exercise room will have lockers and showers. A computer room will offer Internet access, and there will also be a library and a break area with television. A high-speed indoor fueling system will keep drivers out of the weather. A lighted yard and 24-hour security will keep drivers' cars safe while they're on the road.
