Nearly 50 working show trucks entered the National Assn. of Show Trucks truck beauty competition during TruckerFest '99 in Reno/Sparks, NV, August 12-14.

Competitors' Choice was Don and Karen Bartley's Digby/Navaho 1997 Kenworth (shown, front). Best Bobtail went to Roger and Heather Hogeland's '99 Kenworth, "Beyond Obsession" (shown, far left). Best Combo was won by Richard Pratt's 1997 Peterbilt with soft-side trailer.
While judges spent the day Saturday evaluating the beauty trucks, TruckerFest '99 treated drivers to free steak dinners, Trucker Games, a pet contest, exhibits and live entertainment. At nightfall, the show trucks fired up their engines and put on a dazzling light show. Some trucks even had unusual lighting such as neon and strobes. Afterwards, a professional fireworks display, set to country and patriotic music, lit up the sky at The Alamo truckstop, which hosted the event along with Newport Communications' RoadStar magazine.
