Jan. 4 – Roadway Express has been invited to join Mexican’s trucking association, known as CANACAR. It is the first less-than-truckload motor carrier to become a member.
Roadway recent entered into a contract agreement with two Mexican companies to supply two dozen new tractors dedicated exclusively for Roadway’s use. Roadway is using the services of the contracted fleet to haul its trailers in Mexico.
CANACAR said it approved the agreement because these businesses agreed to observe each nation’s cabotage laws under the terms of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
“It’s an honor to be the only LTL motor carrier chosen to join this elite group,” said Bob Carr, vice president of international business for Roadway. “Through this alliance, we will have better access to public legislative and regulatory agencies and therefore will be in a better position to keep a pulse on those issues that are important to the Mexican trucking industry and our customers,” such as truck length and weight restrictions, hours of service and hazmat regulations.
