U.S. NAFTA Freight Above $100 Billion for Sixth Straight Month

U.S. freight movements with Canada and Mexico saw imports increase 3.6% while exports gained 5.2% from a year earlier, according to the U.S. Transportation Department.

Cross-Border Trade Up in May

The value of trade between the United States and its North American trading partners rose in May compared to a year ago, reports the Department of Transportation, led by petroleum products going by pipeline between the U.S. .and Canada, and electrical machinery going by truck between the U.S. and Mexico.

Arbitration Action Filed Against U.S. Over Mexican Trucking

Mexico’s biggest trucking association has filed a $30 billion dollar arbitration claim against the United States for refusing to fully open the country to trucks from south of the border, as called for in the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Court Upholds Mexico Pilot Program

UPDATED- A federal appeals court upheld the Obama administration’s pilot program for long-distance trucking across the U.S.-Mexico border. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit denied petitions by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association and the Teamsters union to declare the program illegal.

Freight Movements Between U.S. & NAFTA Countries Mixed, Trucking Still Dominates

A new U.S. Transportation Department report shows the value of goods moving between the U.S. and its NAFTA partners by all modes of transportation decreased by 4% in March compared to a year ago, but rose 63.7% compared to March 2009.

Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement partners, Canada and Mexico, rose 7.9% in October 2012 compared to October 2011. Trade totaled $85.3 billion, unadjusted for inflation, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Adjusted for inflation and exchange rates, the October 2012 total was $61.7 billion in 2004 dollars, up 7.6% from October 2011
