EPA Proposes to Cut Renewable Fuel Requirements

The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to cut the volume of renewable fuels next year. The agency is required to set annual standards for cellulosic, biomass-based diesel, advanced biofuel and total renewables. It gave two reasons why it needs to reduce the percentage of these fuels next year.

EPA Honors Freight Industry Leaders for Environmental Achievements

EPA is honoring 55 companies as industry leaders in supply chain environmental and energy efficiency with its 2013 SmartWay Excellence Awards. These awards go to companies that have demonstrated outstanding achievements in reducing carbon pollution and other harmful emissions as they move goods across the U.S. more efficiently.

Survey: Speed Reduction, Driver Training, Progressive Shifting Give Best Fuel Efficiency Payback

Reducing speed and driver training were two of the fuel-saving strategies fleets said were most effective.

A survey of fuel efficiency initiatives found that the best payback came from cutting highway speed, training drivers and progressive shifting. Not surprisingly, these actions, along with recording engine data for greater driver feedback, also were the most commonly implemented among the carriers surveyed

Petroleum Industry Files Suit Challenging Biodiesel Mandate

UPDATED -- The American Petroleum Institute, which represents the petroleum industry, is suing the Environmental Protection Agency, challenging its mandate for the use of 1.28 billion gallons of biodiesel in 2013, a 28% increase from the 2012 requirement.
