FMCSA Defends ELD Rule Against OOIDA Court Challenge

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration forcefully defended its Electronic Logging Device rule in a court brief filed June 15. The filing was in response to a lawsuit brought against the mandate by the Owner Operator Independent Driverws Association.

DOT Delays Speed-Limiter, Safety-Fitness Rules; ELD on Track

A final rule mandating electronic logging devices will still be published in September, while publication of a proposed rule to mandate speed limiters and one to establish a carrier safety-fitness determination system have been delayed a month.

An Extra Month for Electronic Logging Comments

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is allowing an extra month for comments on its proposed electronic logging rule. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, representing state police and other enforcement interests, had asked the agency for the one-month extension.

Electronic Log Proposal Takes on Long-Standing Issues

After the agency reviews the comments and publishes a final rule, perhaps later this year, carriers will have two years to comply.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s proposed electronic log mandate, unveiled Thursday, takes on a broad range of issues that have dogged the 15-year effort to draft a rule. HDT's Oliver Patton reports on what's in the 256-page proposal that would require drivers who fill out paper logs to eventually switch to electronic logging devices, or ELDs.

FMCSA Proposes Electronic Logbook Regulations

Electronic logs are currently optional but have been adopted by many fleets.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration just unveiled its proposal for mandatory electronic logbooks, or "Electronic Logging Devices," for interstate commercial truck and bus drivers.
