FMCSA Issues Two Narrow ELD Exemptions to All Carriers

Having decided to grant part of a United Parcel Service request for a limited 5-year exemption from some provisions of the electronic logging device mandate, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will now allow all motor carriers — not just UPS — and drivers to make use of two new temporary exemptions from the ELD rule.

House Bill Aims to Clarify Independent Contractor Status

A bill newly proposed in the House would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to change the classification of employers and employees. “Currently, it is difficult and overly complicated for businesses to use independent contractors, which limits companies’ growth and individuals’ work,” said Rep. Erik Paulsen, who introduced H.R. 3396.
