DOT Issues $5 Million in Emergency Relief for South Carolina Roads

The Dept. of Transportation announced on Oct. 6 the “immediate availability” of $5 million in emergency relief funds from the Federal Highway Administration to the South Carolina Dept. of Transportation to help repair roads and bridges damaged by the recent rain-driven flooding that has crippled the state.

Portion of I-49 Completed in Arkansas, Louisiana

The final segment of a new Interstate has been completed connecting the cities of Texarkana, Ark., and Shreveport, La. The 10 mile segment of road will be designated as Interstate 49 replacing what was Highway 549 in Arkansas.

The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 0.4% in April from March, increasing for the third consecutive month, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Freight Transportation Services Index released Wednesday.
