An Extra Month for Electronic Logging Comments

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is allowing an extra month for comments on its proposed electronic logging rule. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, representing state police and other enforcement interests, had asked the agency for the one-month extension.

FMCSA: Test Shows Significant Safety Benefit from Electronic Logs

Brake Safety Week Inspection Results Show Lowest Brake System Out-of-Service Rate Yet

This year, participating agencies inspected 20,067 vehicles throughout Brake Safety Week and placed 2,714 commercial vehicles out-of-service for brake violations. The rate for brake violations ties with May 2013 and September 2010 for the lowest OOS rates recorded since similar events began in 1998.

CVSA Announces New Officers

2013-2014 CVSA officers: Capt. Jay Thompsonof the Arkansas Highway Police is CVSA secretary (on left); Capt. William "Bill" Reese of the Idaho State Police (center) is CVSA vice president; and Sgt.Tom Fuller of the New York State Police is CVSA president.

Questions Continue about CSA; Logs, Lamps Top CSA Violations

“CSA has had an effect on safety, but people want to make sure their scores are correct and fair,” said Rob Abbott, vice president of safety policy, American Trucking Associations during an update on the program at the recent Zonar user’s conference held in San Antonio last week. Also part of the update, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance head Steve Keppler went over the top CSA violations.
