Same-dealer sales volumes of Used Class 8 trucks recovered in June, posting a double digit month-over-month increase following a sharp decline in May, according to ACT Research figures.

Truck sales volumes grew 15% over the previous month when sales had fallen 18%. Sales are still down compared to June 2015 and when comparing the amount of sales year-to-date to 2015. There seems to be more customer traffic at dealers, according to ACT, but sales have not yet surged.

Dealers reported that the average price and age of used trucks fell compared to May's numbers and average mileage rose by only 1%.

“When we see dramatic, opposing shifts such as this, we tend to average the two points together, ascribing the variation to shifts in timing of purchases,” said Steve Tam, ACT’s vice president-- commercial vehicle sector. “Taking that broader view, the change in volumes is easier to understand. As a case in point, YTD sales in May and June were down 5%.”
