XL Hybrids is now offering its XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System for the diesel-powered Reach commercial van from Isuzu and Utilimaster, the alternative-fuel conversion company announced.

The Reach is the first diesel-powered vehicle equipped with the XL3 powertrain, according to XL Hybrids.

The XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System saves fuel through regenerative braking, a process by which the electric motor helps slow the vehicle when the driver brakes, charging the battery. When the driver accelerates, the battery releases the energy to the electric motor, helping propel the vehicle.

XL Hybrids is unveiling a Reach van with the XL3 system at the 2015 Work Truck Show, which will be held March 4-6 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
