Net trailer orders in the U.S. hit an all-time record high of 46,267 units in October according to a new report from the transportation information services provider FTR.

The new mark shatters the old high number by 9% and trailer orders have totaled as high as 327,000 units in the past 12 months.

“While OEMs did go out and solicit orders for delivery through the middle of 2015, impacting October activity, it is still very encouraging to see these large numbers, “ said Don Ake, vice president of commercial vehicles at FTR.

The increase in orders going into 2015 indicates that fleets are positive about the business conditions next year, said Ake. Dry van, reefer and flatbed orders were all extremely high and driven by large fleets and lease fleets placing sizable requirement orders for 2015.

“Much of the October order total is pull-forward activity, to get orders into the backlog for delivery in 2015,” he said. “OEMs can now better plan production and fleets have their build slots reserved well in advance.”
