Sales of used Class 8 trucks sold in July were 2% better than the month before, as selling prices remained high.

The rise in sales was in the published report from ACT Research called State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks.

“Year to date, sales are down 5%, but the year to date contraction in sales is getting smaller each month” said Steve Tam, ACT vice president of commercial vehicles.

Selling price of Class 8 trucks remained at a high level but climbed only 1% over June.

“However, there appears to be meaningful upside potential in our expectation of price appreciation up to 10 percent for 2014,” said Tam.

The report from ACT provides data on average selling price, miles and age based on a sample of the industry. It also provides  the average selling price for top-selling Class 8 models for Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, International, Mack and Volvo.
