Will Computers Threaten Oil Companies?

One oil industry writer believes the real threat to oil companies is computer technology that allows workers to telecommute.
“The electric car is here and it’s not from Detroit,” said Daniel Yergin, head of Cambridge Energy Research Associates and author or a book on oil history. “It’s telecommuting and the Internet that are competing with Detroit. Technology is now providing an alternative to the lifestyle created by the neighborhood gas station.”
