New technology developed by Clean Air Partners of San Diego, CA, will allow heavy duty trucks to run both on natural gas and diesel fuel.

The process allows truck engines to run on a mixture of up to 90% liquid natural gas and 10% diesel, enabling the truck to retain diesel power while emitting less air pollutants.
Engines derived from this technology, said to reduce pollutants such as NOx, particulate matter and hydrocarbons, are currently being produced by Caterpillar, which obtained licensing rights from Clean Air Partners. Other partners in the dual-fuel engine project include Amoco, Hawthorne Power Systems, Power Systems Associates and MVE.
