A new public-private partnership between the federal government and the cellular phone industry will promote an emergency phone number — similar to 911 — for wireless phone users.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Federal Communications Commission and the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Assn. have agreed to support a single emergency number that cellular users can dial regardless of where they are or what zone they’re in.
The groups are also supporting Make The Right Call, a program which instructs the public on how and when to make an emergency call.
