Quaker State will comply with a Federal Trade Commission order to stop allegedly false and unsubstantiated claims about the Slick 50 auto-engine additive. In a July 1996 complaint, FTC barred Quaker State from making claims that Slick 50 would reduce engine wear and prolong engine life. FTC may also pursue claims on behalf of consumers unless current claims currently being pursued result in a verdict of more than $10 million for consumers. Other Quaker State subsidiaries involved in the matter go by the Blue Coral name.
