French truckers ended their blockades of oil refineries and depots yesterday after six days of protests against high fuel prices.
It took four days for all the unions to accept the government's offer of a 20-cent reimbursement per gallon of fuel this year, and a 14-cent rebate next year. One union accepted last Wednesday's offer immediately. The country's largest trucker union accepted the government's offer late Friday, and UNOSTRA joined in Saturday.
Union leaders Saturday unanimously called for an end to the protest that began a week ago.
As blockades were lifted in France, however, truckers, taxi drivers and tour bus operators in Brussels, Belgium, staged their own protest yesterday. Protests are also continuing in England, where truckers have targeted refineries.
