Volvo Trucks Canada and Centennial College are officially launching an unusual modified apprenticeship program today designed to help alleviate the shortage of qualified heavy-truck technicians in Canada.

What makes it unique is that the company is committed to placing all students who successfully complete the 36-week program as paid apprentices at Volvo Truck dealerships across the country. Traditionally, apprentices are responsible for finding their own employer before starting their program.
In addition to sponsoring all accepted students as apprentices, Volvo Trucks Canada provided product and a VN 610 truck to work on in Centennial's new lab. There are 18 students expected to graduate from the one-year program in June.
