With the return of warmer weather, normal weight restrictions are back in place in Wisconsin.
Each winter, the state declares roads "frozen," allowing trucks hauling logs, salt or sand to carry heavier loads, up to 98,000 pounds. With the advent of above-freezing temperatures, the state suspended the frozen road declaration effective Monday, Feb. 28.
On Monday, March 6, the spring thaw weight restrictions will go into effect on highways with state or U.S. designations. The time when roadbeds are thawing is when heavy loads are the most likely to damage the highways. Spring thaw weight restrictions mean the suspension of divisible load permits, such as for pulpwood hauling or garbage transport. Weight may be restricted on other state-issued single trip permits, as well.
