The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to re-issue storm water multi-sector general permits for 29 sectors of industrial activities, including some trucking facilities.
The general permit, issued under the Clean Water Act’s National Pollution discharge Elimimation System, controls storm water discharges within eight EPA regions (1, 2, 3, 4,6, 8, 9, 10). the current permits were issued on September 29, 1995 and expire September 29, 2000. The proposal, issued March 30, includes some minor changes designed primarily to clarify compliance requirements.
A trucking operation that has on site mantenance and repair, fueling and/or washing facilities may be required by EPA or state authorities to have an individual storm water permit or be covered under a group permit where available. Those operations must also have storm water pollution prevention plans. More information on the NPDES storm water program is available at www.epa.gov/owm/sw/industry/msgp/index.htm.
