The Coldfoot Truck Stop in Barrow, AK, shut down its restaurant and hotel rooms Monday for the winter. The truckstop will run through the winter, selling fuel for just eight hours a day with a skeleton staff of three.

The truckstop is located on the Dalton Highway, 60 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The facility has stayed open year-round in the past, but the operation was just not profitable in the winter.
The closing leaves no restaurant or lodging services on the Dalton Highway on the 350-mile stretch from the Yukon River to Prudhoe Bay. There will be a small vending machine with some snacks and a soda machine.
Truckers usually can make the trip from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay without refueling. The exception is when bad weather closes the roads. The Coldfoot will be available for emergency services in cases like that.
