Dec. 22 – Oshkosh Truck Corp. has landed the biggest contract in its history, according to published reports.

The company will build 5,666 medium-duty cargo trucks for the Marine Corps over five years. The contract is worth $853 million. An option for 2,502 additional trucks could raise the value of the contract to $1.2 billion, reported the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The contract is for an all-wheel-drive truck that can carry seven tones off road and 15 tons on pavement. It is powered by a 425-horsepower Caterpillar engine and uses an Allison transmission and an Eaton central tire inflation system.
Truck construction will start in 2000, with full production beginning in mid-2001.
