Sept. 25 – Montana officials ticketed 20 Canadian truckers Monday, the first day of its crackdown on inspections of southbound trucks at the U.S.-Canadian border.
Officers from Montana’s Motor Carrier Services Div. stopped nearly 300 trucks entering Montana Monday. About half were U.S. trucks, and about half of those ticketed were U.S. trucks, as well. Most of the tickets were for violations of weight, permit or safety regulations. No violations of state agriculture laws were found in checks of 22 trucks carrying agricultural products from Canada.
The week-long border-crossing enforcement campaign is part of a battle over trade policies with Canada, started by South Dakota.
