Navistar: LT Truck Sales Already 'Great,' Joint GM Project 'On Schedule'

Navistar's platooning rigs stayed 15 to 30 meters apart during demonstration on the grounds' 3-mile oval track. Automated steering, also called "lateral control," is among the active features.

SuperTruck and a pair of platooning rigs were also demonstrated at the company's proving grounds in Indiana on Wednesday.

Volvo’s SuperTruck Exceeds EPA Freight Efficiency Goals

Volvo Trucks North America’s SuperTruck demonstration rig combined advanced aerodynamics, vehicle and powertrain technologies to achieve a freight efficiency improvement of 88%, averaging 12 mpg in road tests.

Daimler Achieves 115% Efficiency Improvement with SuperTruck

Daimler Trucks North America unveiled its futuristic SuperTruck at the 2015 Mid-America Trucking Show, saying the project exceeded the company’s expectations. The DTNA SuperTruck has achieved 115% freight efficiency improvement, surpassing the Department of Energy program’s goal of 50% improvement.

Daimler Trucks Hits SuperTruck Goals Ahead of Schedule

Daimler Trucks North America said Thursday it has realized the objectives of its SuperTruck program one year ahead of schedule. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the SuperTruck program is an ambitious five-year research and development initiative focused on improving freight efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of Class 8 trucks.

A Good Review for SuperTruck Program

Truck and engine manufacturers report significant efficiency gains as a result of the public-private “SuperTruck” program. An interim assessment of the Energy Department’s collaborative effort says that the concept vehicles are closing in on a 50% improvement in freight efficiency and a 20% improvement in engine efficiency.
