Finnish Companies to Develop Hybrid Powertrain For Heavy Trucks

A new electric-hybrid parallel power system unveiled by Visedo and Sisu Auto is designed to work with Mercedes-Benz OM471 and OM473 diesel engines. The diesel engine is the primary power source, with the electric motor kicking in during peak energy demand periods.

Truck Makers Hit With Record EU Fines for Price-Fixing in Europe

The European Union is fining five truck makers nearly 3 billion euros for acting as a cartel to fix prices of medium and heavy-duty trucks and time the introduction of technologies to comply with emissions rules.

Gross-weight hike is primarily for users of specialized bodies, said Mercedes-Benz Vans in Germany.

Mercedes-Benz Vans has boosted the available gross vehicle weight rating of its European Sprinter by 990 pounds, to 5.5 metric tons or 12,122 pounds. An increase is being considered for North American vans, said a spokesman at the builder's U.S. headquarters.
