Daimler Trucks Shares its Vision of the Future

When Daimler Trucks revealed to the world the first truly autonomous on-highway truck, it was digitally camouflaged to prevent anyone, including competitors, from getting a close look at it. In Hanover, Germany, the day before the official opening of the 2014 International Commercial Vehicle show (IAA), Daimler took the wraps of the truck and showed the worlds its vision of the future.

The ZF Innovation Truck demonstrates how a driver could walk along with a tablet or cell phone, telling the combination vehicle where to go. This could boost efficiency for fleets, the company said this week during a press event that also highlighted a new transmission that could be offered eventually in North America.

Daimler Trucks Unveils Long-Term Plan for Autonomous-Driving Trucks

Daimler Trucks on Thursday shared its vision of the future of trucking trucks that can drive themselves, saying they could help solve the driver shortage problem -- but not by taking drivers out of trucks altogether. The autonomous truck project, called Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025, was demonstrated on a section of the A14 Autobahn.

Georg Weiberg will retire after working for Daimler for more than 40 years. He was responsible for Engineering Mercedes-Benz Vans for ten years and has also had a big impact on Daimler Trucks’ development unit during the past seven years.

Georg Weiberg, who has had a big impact on Daimler Trucks' development unit over the past seven years, including rolling out the latest engine platforms, is retiring from Daimler. Effective August 1, 2013, Sven Ennerst will take on global responsibility for the development department at Daimler Trucks as his replacement.

Volvo Produces 7 Demo Trucks - Sans Carbon Dioxide

The Volvo Group has produced seven demonstration trucks that can all be driven without emitting any environmentally harmful carbon dioxide. These trucks were exhibited recently in Stockholm and are equipped with diesel engines that have been modified to operate on seven different types of renewable liquid and gaseous fuels.
