Report: Natural Gas, Aerodynamics Will Help Meet Future Fuel Economy Goals

The report recommends that NHTSA and EPA develop a separate standard for natural gas vehicles, as is presently the case for diesel and gasoline-fueled vehicles.

Expanding the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel and greater use of aerodynamic devices on trailers are among the strategies recommended by a new National Research Council report for reducing fuel consumption by tractor-trailers, transit buses, commercial vehicles, trucks, and other medium and heavy-duty vehicles.

Daimler Execs Upbeat About Truck Sales, Concerned About CARB

MATS, LOUISVILLE, KY -- Truck orders at Daimler Trucks North America over the past four months are up 30% over the previous year, so the company has been gradually ramping up production and expects a strong 2014. However, the involvement of the California Air Resources Board in writing the next round of federal emissions regulations has them concerned.

EPA Has Big Ambitions for New Heavy Duty Fuel Economy Standards

The Environmental Protection Agency is more ambitious for the next phase of its heavy-duty truck fuel economy standards than it was for the first, and will look at trailers as well as new engine and transmission technologies.

Canada to Follow U.S. Greenhouse Gas Regulations For Trucks

Canadian Environment Minister Peter Kent Monday announced final regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for trucks and buses in the country, which will mirror those set to go into effect starting next year in the United States.
