FTR's forecast for the 2014 U.S. Trailer is 240,000 units, a 2.2% increase over 2013. FTR expects dry vans to show a 2% year-over-year increase while reefer vans will remain flat. Flatbeds, dumps and low beds are all expected to show greater increases as construction and manufacturing improve.

January NA Classes 5-7 net orders are expected at 17,000 units and Class 8 net orders are expected at 34,700 units, when actual data are released mid-month, according to ACT Research.

November Class 8 truck orders totaled 20,915, the second consecutive month above the 20,000 mark, according to preliminary data from transportation forecasting firm FTR. However, the company notes that was below expectations.

FTR's Trucking Conditions Index for November rose almost two full points to a reading of 9.7.
The gain was expected by FTR as conditions impacting trucking will continue to improve in anticipation of a tightened market in 2013

FTR Associates has released preliminary data showing December Class 8 truck net orders at 20,836 units, just 6% higher than November. This is a 30% drop from the same month a year ago.
While orders were low historically for December, those received in the last three months of 2012 were well above the prior six months. Preliminary order numbers are for all major North American OEMs
