Aluminum Parts Save 707 Pounds in F-150 Weigh-In

Ford executives showed two trucks on scales to demonstrate the light-weighting of the new truck when compared to the 2014 model-year version.

A 2015 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 with a 2.7L V-6 EcoBoost engine scaled at 4,942 pounds, while a comparable 2014 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 with a 5.0L V-8 weighed 5,674 pounds.

Oklahoma, Dallas Order 321 Bi-Fuel F-150s as Demand for Natural Gas Grows

The State of Oklahoma, its agencies and the City of Dallas have ordered a total of 321 Ford F-150 pickups that can run on compressed natural gas or gasoline, according to Ford, which also said that demand for gas is growing strongly.

Like trucks, a dedicated tractor model will have a mesh grille and sculpted fender lines as part of new styling. New USA-built models are due out in spring of 2015.

Ford, GM to Jointly Develop Multi-Speed Transmissions

Ford and GM plan to jointly develop a new generation of advanced 9- and 10-speed automatics for cars, crossover and sport utility vehicles, and trucks.

Multi-speed transmissions were once reserved for heavy trucks, but 8-speed automatics are now available in automobiles and pickups, and soon there’ll be even more ratios.
