J.J. Keller & Associates is offering a program, Hazmat Transportation: Driver Training, to help motor carriers meet Department of Transportation requirements, avoid penalties for noncompliance, and protect their Compliance, Safety, Accountability scores.

DOT-required hazmat training must cover four distinct areas: general awareness, safety, security awareness, and function-specific training, the company said. For trainers, the latter can be the most challenging, because each driver must receive instruction on how to perform his or her unique job functions correctly. J.J. Keller’s program covers all four.

The training program includes a closed-captioned DVD, trainer guide, trainer tools CD-ROM, wall charts for combination labels/placards and load & segregation, Hazardous Materials Compliance Pocketbook, and driver awareness poster.

The Trainer Tools CD-ROM provides a PowerPoint presentation (which can be customized with company-specific content based on the types of hazmat commonly transported by the motor carrier), quizzes (with answer keys), learning activities, checklists to assist with function-specific training, a sample hazmat policy, clip art, training certificate of completion, and training log.

A driver training packet includes materials that enhance and build on information presented in a video. The packets are available separately and are designed for individual drivers to use during training, and then keep as a reference.

In addition to the DVD format, Hazmat Transportation: Driver Training is available in Pay Per View, which provides 72-hour access to the video via the internet, and an Online Course format, which makes self-paced, interactive training available anytime, anywhere with an internet connection. These format options allow all drivers to receive required hazmat training even if they’re not available for classroom instruction.
