Healthy Fleet’s 10 Pound Challenge runs for 59 days from New Year’s Day to the end of February, during which participants will form healthy eating habits and activity plans to help lose weight and achieve other health goals. Healthy Fleet’s team of nutritionists and coaches will help participating drivers during the challenge, providing the information and feedback needed to reach goals.

“America’s Road Team Captains are the public face of trucking’s 7.3 million professional truck drivers and the team has a strong platform for spreading positive health and wellness messages,” said Elisabeth Barna, ATA COO and executive vice president of industry affairs. “ATA extends our thanks to Healthy Fleet for choosing these five deserving Captains to participate in the challenge and we look forward to seeing them achieve their health goals in the coming months.”

America’s Road Team Captains selected to participate in Healthy Fleet’s 10 Pound Challenge include:

  • Allen Boyd, Walmart Transportation

  • Charlie Demchock, Walmart Transportation

  • John Lex, Walmart Transportation

  • John McCown, UPS Freight

  • Russ Simpson, Holland

America’s Road Team will be posting 10 Pound Challenge updates on Facebook and Twitter to help spread the word about the importance of health in the trucking industry. They are also asking the trucking community to show support and encouragement for the team’s five participants.

The life of a truck driver includes unique health challenges related to being seated for long periods of time and limited access to nutritious foods. ATA recently released a video on health topics, focusing on exercise routines, diet options, and getting proper amounts of rest.

“We see the 10 Pound Challenge as a great opportunity for truck drivers throughout North America to take a closer look at their daily routines and build healthier habits,” said John Lex, America’s Road Team Captain and a participant in the challenge. “Like millions of other Americans who are entering 2017 with health goals, truck drivers need resources and support to become healthier. I’m excited for the challenge and am looking forward to seeing my fellow America’s Road Team Captains succeed.”
